Today I have a fantastic feature on an upcoming British artist. Her work is definitely starting to catch attention. With the effortless use of colours and her personal touch she's definitely owning her art.
A british beauty with west african roots, Sarah Owusu will be a well known female artist in the near future. Have a peep below for my short chat with her and look out for another collab in the future hopefully on my YouTube channel.
How would you classify yourself
as an Artist? What type of Artist are you?
The idea to paint or to show artistic talent is never just learnt, it’s something found within you. When would you say you found out that you had a talent in Art?
I don't remember the specific age but it was from a young age. Going back to primary school, I always loved art. It was my favourite subject and I would always look forward to it. Throughout school I was selected for gifted and talented art workshops and from there my confidence and my love for Art and creating continued to build.
As far as inspiration, when and
where do you get inspired to paint?
When I realised there is a market for young, African female artists like myself. In regards to inspiration, it's drawn from pretty much everything and is sometimes brought to me in places, people and things that I least expect.

How would you describe your work? What do you use to create your pieces?
I would describe my work as Owusunism which is derived from my own surname as that's a huge part of my identification which in turn has led to the work I have produced.
The main medium I use for my work is Acrylic paint. However, some of my pieces encompasses a range of mixed media from flowers to gold leaves.
As far as you are concerned, who are your favourite artists of all time?
I can’t pick one, I have drawn inspiration from many such as JennySaville Jean Micheal Basquiat, Francis Bacon, Chris Ofili and Françoise Nielly's. I really love the work of these because they all have something in common; distorted images which is pretty much how i like to paint most of my pieces.

What obstacles have you been able
to overcome whilst building your brand as an Artist?
There hasn’t been major obstacles, due to hard work and support its gone well so far. My first exhibition was packed due to instagram and word of mouth, this really gave me a confidence boost. The only thing I would mention is when I tell people I’m an artist they tend to reply with surprise or shock. As if artists are supposed to look a certain way.

In 5 words how would you describe
yourself?
Creative, Hardworking, Caring, Family orientated and Spiritual
Do you recommend a budget to
getting started? What exactly does an artist like you starting off need?
I don’t think you need a budget to start. You need pen, paper and ideas and the rest will follow.

What can we expect from the Sarah
in 2015?
Definitely a website which is coming very soon. More art and exciting pieces. I also plan to hold a solo exhibition.

Do you feel that you are well
supported, would you like to see more support of your work? If so, how?
I definitely feel that I'm well supported and I feel overwhelmed with the amount of support I receive especially from my family, close friends, my partner and even strangers!

What is your top piece of advice to
motivate or inspire anyone reading this that is pursuing this type of career?
I would say whether you think you can or you can’t, either way you are right. A favourite of mine by the great Napoleon Hill says: "Whatever the mind can conceive and believe, it can achieve."
Once you let fear go and start to focus, you will start seeing results. I used to be scared of how others may perceive myself and my work until I stopped caring and decided to take that leap of faith which took me a long time. The moment you wake up and things begin to click, you have to run with it and don’t watch what other people are doing because everyone is running a very separate race to yours which may look very glamorous to you at first glance.
Where can readers connect with you?
