Interior design is something I love looking at, especially ones with meaning behind it. So you could understand my interest when I was recommended by a close friend of mine to have a look into Copper Dust London.
It's run by International Model, Designer and Entrepreneur Vanessa.

I love the name Copper Dust.
Traditionally it doesn't sound as glam as ‘Gold Dust’, Did you pick the name as a play on word? What was your inspiration?
It's funny many people have
complimented me on the name, it comes with a story. Originally the company was
named something else, but due copyright reasons it had to be changed. I spent
days trailing trough ideas. The name
just came to me, I've always loved the material Copper and it just made
sense to add Dust, hence Copper Dust was
born. When I told two of my best friends they weren't feeling it, but now it’s
the first thing people compliment.
You've been doing well in the modelling industry
and you’ve even landed a gig on ITV2 ‘Take Me out’. So where does the love of
interior design come from?
Unlike most models I never particularly
had a desire to become a model, I’ve always had a passion for design and all
things creative. I have a BA (HONS)
Interior Architecture & Design as well as a diploma in Interior
Design. Whilst studying a lot of people
mistook me for being a model, so I thought I would give it a try, and as they
say the rest is history I never looked back since I thoroughly enjoy it.
I’m at a great point in my life wear I can
combine both industries. Take Me Out was a great experience, especially making
a whole new set of friends across the country.
What inspires the art you showcase and the
lampshades?
I often take inspiration from daily
life, especially through social media, and visiting design exhibitions and
galleries, I live, eat and breathe my environment.
What are your top tips to
starting an interior design company?
I would say thoroughly research
every aspect of the business right down to the small aspects, everything is a
journey take your time. Network as much as possible regardless of whether it’s
directly related to your field, you never know what could happen. Have a strong
network of support, to hold you up
sometimes when your feeling down, you have people to pick you up.
In 5 words how would you describe yourself?
Perfectionist
Driven
Sarcastic
Hardworking
Opportunist
Do you recommend a budget to getting started?
I wouldn't use the word budget more
of a savings plan in place that will cover all expense including your personal
survival budget.
Who exactly are your products for? Can anyone
buy them?
I wouldn't want to marginalise
anyone, so I would say everyone.
Design led, who looking for a unique
handmade item to add value to their home
What can we expect from the CopperDust in 2015?
Press & Stock immersion, brand
awareness everyone should know who Copper Dust is and what they represent.
“Bespoke home décor brand specialising in limited edition illustrations and handmade lampshades”
Where do you see yourself in 5 years as an
entrepreneur?
This is always my favourite
question, expansion of the brand into furniture as well as having an
international section. To have an interior design consultancy in Ghana.
Cliché it may sound if you truly
have a talent, no matter what odds are stacked against you, never give up.
